Advancing policy that is informed by the continent's realities.
ABOUT US
Enzi Ijayo is a Pan African think and do tank that convenes academia, private sector, civil society and governments to analyze and formulate policies for growing investments in green energy solutions that provide a sustainable path towards greening Africa's economic development. It seeks to leverage its solid networks on the continent to provide actionable outcomes
OUR GOAL
Energy transition policies and solutions that are inclusive, equitable, accountable, and contribute to socio-economic development in Africa
Our team actively participated in the Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi from Mon, Sep 4, 2023 β Wed, Sep 6, 2023. Our Director, Charles Wanguhu, had the privilege of being interviewed by the Informer Kenya, shedding light on our commitment to advancing policies that address Africa's unique realities and energy access needs.
Enzi Ijayo Africa Initiative signed an open letter by the Global Renewables Alliance calling for a target to triple renewable energy at COP28 joining over 200 global organisations in supporting the pledge. While we applaud the ambitious goal of Tripling Global Clean Energy Capacity, we at Enzi Ijayo believe that for the African Continent, the target should be even more ambitiousβ5 Times Renewable! Let's join forces to accelerate the transition and ensure a sustainable future for our beloved continent.

Climate Diplomacy
Leveraging its networks and opportunities across the continent and globally, Enzi Ijayo will implement the following key strategies:
β’ Shaping and/or influencing the narrative on effective policies and solutions for energy transition for Africa that are based on action-oriented and credible research across the continent
β’ Participating and influencing policy discussions at national, regional, continental and global levels
β’ Serve as a bridge, linking think tanks, CSOs and civil society activists across the African continent working on energy access, transitions and natural resource governance.
Decarbonisation
Achieving Net Zero in Sub Saharan Africa will require a set of technology transitions that address the unique challenges faced by the region. Enzi Ijayo seeks to:
β’ Identify and model solutions in order to capture good practices and lessons learned that can be applied in other parts of the continent
β’ We will seek to show implementation models for decarbonization of three wheelers, Decarbonisation of grids and cross-country grids. Linking government action to private sector implementation of policy opportunities.
Renewable Energy
To build a credible evidence base to support advocacy and navigate power asymmetries in energy transition processes towards achieving increased renewable energy targets on the continent.
β’ Map out existing policy priorities and implementation frameworks around electrification and decarbonization within the continent
β’ Determine best practices and gaps in approaches undertaken by different African states in Renewable energy scale up
β’ Identify existing financing gaps that impede the implementation of Renewable energy policy priorities and identify corresponding funding sources for government initiatives within the region
β’ Strategically disseminate research outputs to members of civil society to inform advocacy; and to government stakeholders to inform planning and prioritization

βThe energy transition, with its systematic shift to renewable energy needs to be understood not as a burden impost on the worldβs most vulnerable people, but as a vast opportunity to improve livelihoods across Africa in ways that transcend purely economic benefitsβ
